Legia – Jagiellonia 2:1

In the Ekstraklasa match played in Warsaw, Legia Warszawa won 2:1 over Jagiellonia Białystok. The scorers were Tomasz Kiełbowicz and Bartłomiej Grzelak (Legia) and Thiago Cionek (Jagiellonia).

The match started with a  minute of silence in order to commemorate the victims of the plane crash near Smolensk.

The first minutes brought fierce struggle in the midfield. When Marcin Mięciel (Legia) got fouled nearby Jagiellonia’s penalty area in 6’, Legia performed a free kick and Kiełbowicz scored. Soon after that Jagiellonia responded with a corner and a free kick, then the away team seemed to control the game. In 27’ Choto (Legia) fouled Jezierski (Jagiellonia) in the penalty area and Jagiellonia were given a chance to score yet Frankowski’s (Jagiellonia) penalty kick was returned by Mucha (Legia). Seven minutes later Kiełbowicz performed a free kick yet the ball got returned and arrived back to be seized by Grzelak (Legia), who then scored. After their second goal, Legia again rushed to dominate the game but the play got matched very soon.

The other half started slightly better for Legia, their passes seemed to be more accurate and effective. In 57’ Marcin Mięciel (Legia) was fouled at the penalty area again. Unfortunately, the free kick by Iwański (Legia) got blocked. Then the game sharpened as consecutive fouls stopped the game. Then in 63’ a good centre by Iwański and a hit by Jarzębowski was to be seen. Unfortunately, it wassaved by Jagiellonia’s goalkeeper. In 67’ Frankowski (Jagiellonia) was substituted by Grosicki, who immediately worked out a good goal attempt for his team yet Legia’s back kicked the ball out. Jagiellonia performed a corner after which the ball got to Thiago and the player scored a header. Later on, the play was often stopped due to minor injuries. When Rybus (Legia) substituted Rzeźniczak, the play livened up. Right before the end of the match, Hermes (Jagiellonia) hit the cross bar. All in all, Legia won 2:1 and added three points to their league results.
