Fredi Bobic appointed Head of Football Operations at Legia Warsaw
Fredi Bobic, former German footballer and highly regarded sports director of Bundesliga clubs, joins the club as “Head of Football Operations”. Bobic has taken up his new role and signed a contract with the Varsovian club.
The establishment of cooperation with Bobic is another decision made in accordance with of the previously announced changes in Legia's sporting division. In March 2025, Michał Żewłakow was appointed as sporting director.
As the club's management emphasises, a key element of the new organisational structure is the synergy of the complementary competences of Michal Żewłakow and Fredi Bobic. The goals of the latter will focus on creating a long-term strategy in the sporting department, development of scouting processes in the entire organisation and utilizing experience and international connexions in future transfers. Michał Żewłakow is responsible for all current decisions concerning the first team, building its values, transfers in current transfer windows and making decisions regarding the coaching staff.
“Fredi Bobic brings to Legia experience, knowledge and relationships gained through years of working at clubs playing in one of Europe's best and most professional leagues. He was successful first as a player and then as a manager working at the highest levels of the sporting structure. His strategic and analytical competences and international contacts fit perfectly into Legia's sporting development plan. There has not yet been a person with such experience and international standing in Polish club football and I am convinced that he will help bring the club to a new level of development, while his cooperation with Michał Żewłakow will allow us to achieve sporting goals in line with our ambitions, both in the league and in European cups. I expect a good cooperation between Fredi and Michal. Both men are very complementary and at the same time have a similar outlook on football. I also expect good communication and cooperation with the Board. In terms of day-to-day communication and operational decisions, they will work directly with Managing Vice President Marcin Herra,” says Legia Warsaw CEO Dariusz Mioduski.

Fredi Bobic will focus on the further development and implementation of the club's overall sports development strategy, integrating all areas starting from the Academy up to the first team, the implementation and development of management processes within the sports department, the development of data analysis systems and their use in sports processes. An important task for Fredi will be the strengthening of recruitment and transfer processes including, in particular, international outbound transfer activities.
Fredi Bobic, born on 30 October 1971 in Maribor, is a well-known figure in the world of football. As a striker, he’s scored for clubs such as VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund and Hertha BSC. He played 37 games for the German national team and scored 10 goals, his greatest success being a triumph at the 1996 European Championships.
After his playing career, Bobic enjoyed considerable success as a sporting director. At Eintracht Frankfurt (2016-2021), he led the club's transformation, which resulted in winning the German Cup in 2018 and advancing to the semi-finals of the Europa League in the 2018/2019 season. His transfer strategy resulted in the acquisition of players such as Luka Jović, Sébastien Haller and Ante Rebić, who were later sold at a multi-million dollar profit. Fredi Bobic was named “Man of the Year” by a prestigious German sports magazine “Kicker” in 2018. At Herta BSC (2021-2023), he was responsible for rebuilding the club's personnel and optimising sporting processes all the while the club underwent unplanned management and board changes.
