Legia Warszawa S.A. today announced a long-term strategic investment by Michael Gorzynski, an American entrepreneur and investor with Polish roots. Mr. Gorzynski has acquired a 40 per cent stake in the Club and will become Chairman of the Club’s Supervisory Board. Dariusz Mioduski remains the majority shareholder with a 60 per cent stake and continues as President of the Management Board.
The transaction combines newly issued shares subscribed in a capital increase for Legia with the acquisition of existing shares from Mr. Mioduski, and is accompanied by a shareholder term loan facility in support of the Club’s ongoing operations. This comprehensive capital injection strengthens Legia’s balance sheet, reduces its debt, and significantly enhances both its financial stability and capacity for future growth.
Mr. Mioduski commented: “Michael is an exceptionally successful investor and corporate leader who has spent his career building and growing organisations across industries. I am proud to say that we share many core values, a long-term perspective, and a mutual understanding of the responsibility that we hold for Legia's future. The Club’s next chapter requires long-term capital and a long-term partner, and that is what this investment provides. Beyond our shared vision, Michael and I also share similar personal backgrounds: we both emigrated to the United States in the 1980s and studied at Harvard. I am absolutely thrilled that Legia has brought us together today.”
Mr. Gorzynski added: “I see tremendous potential in Polish football, and nowhere is that potential clearer than in Legia Warszawa. Few clubs anywhere in the world can match Legia’s history, support base, and the foundation that Dariusz and his team have built: a state-of-the-art training centre, a top-tier academy, advanced commercial operations, and a highly professional organisation. These achievements coupled with the power of the Legia brand and the tremendous energy and momentum in Warsaw today create a unique platform for long-term success. As a Polish native, I am deeply proud and incredibly excited to participate in the next chapter of Legia’s story and the evolution of Polish football.”
Mr. Gorzynski’s involvement will focus on ownership and strategic initiatives. The composition of the Club’s Management remains unchanged, and responsibility for day-to-day operations and sporting decisions rests with Legia’s existing executive team.
The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
